The best life in Bucerias, Mexico in the words of a Canadian

Statistics show that about one million Canadians travel south during the winter to escape the cold. While the majority head to hot destinations in the U.S., such as Florida and Arizona, a notable 7% choose to venture even farther south into Mexico.

In fact, some Canadians have made the decision to permanently move to Mexico, just like Alan from Saguenay, Quebec. Alan relocated to Mexico in search of better weather and an improved lifestyle.

According to Alan, “I used to prefer winter, but I have switched to being more of a spring person. I decided to move to Bucerias because going out in Canada when it’s cold and windy is unbearable.”

Alan purchased a home in Bucerias and continues to work remotely as a software engineer for a Canadian company. He emphasizes that his quality of life has exponentially improved, saying, “My salary stretches a lot further in Mexico. In Canada, I couldn’t afford house cleaning services, let alone have a pool and a gardener.”

When it comes to his internet connection, Alan expresses his surprise: “I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fiber optic internet here. I subscribe to the top plan, and it is still cheaper than what I paid in Canada. My work requires an excellent internet connection, and I have that here.”

Alan also shares his experience with healthcare: “I was accustomed to Canada’s healthcare system, but last summer, I needed an emergency appendectomy and received attention at a hospital in Nayarit. The cost was about 3000 dollars, which would have been much more expensive in the U.S.”

Since his appendectomy, Alan has obtained an insurance policy to cover his healthcare needs.

“What I love most about Bucerias is waking up to the sound of the ocean and enjoying the warm weather. The people here are also incredibly kind,” Alan adds.

Because Alan was able to afford a spacious house in Bucerias, he invites his family from Canada to stay with him during the winter. “They love visiting, and my nieces and nephews especially enjoy spending time at the beach house.”

Alan has even considered moving his elderly parents to Bucerias since the harsh Canadian winters can be challenging for them. “My mom is delighted to walk with me to the market. The vibrant colors and festive atmosphere in Bucerias make it a place my parents truly enjoy.”

Bucerias is an ideal destination for those seeking a calm life at the beach, whether for retirement or remote work. Visit Bucerias and find the perfect spot for you and your family.
